Performer

Frédéric Macarez is one of the most active musicians of his generation. Through his various musical and teaching activities, he is deeply committed to the growth of percussion, excellence in musical performance, and the establishment of close ties among all percussionists.

After 37 years in orchestral music with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Orchestre de Paris under the direction of Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Semyon Bychkov, Gustavo Dudamel, Christoph Eschenbach, Valery Gergiev, Paavo Järvi, Armin Jordan, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Andris Nelsons, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Zubin Mehta, and others, Frédéric Macarez now devotes himself to the solo percussion repertoire, and more specifically to the timpani.

As a soloist and chamber musician, he performs solo recitals, concertos with orchestra, and chamber music concerts worldwide with renowned musicians such as Christoph Eschenbach, Tzimon Barto, Martha Argerich, Marie-Josèphe Jude, Alexandre Rabinovitch, Jesse Levine, Li Biao, and with the Paris-Percu Ensemble, which he founded.

As a soloist, he performs the major concertos for his instrument of choice (Druschetzky, Kraft, Thäirichen, Glass, etc.) as well as his own concertante works (Escales, Viranel, Biao). He also performs in recital the major works for solo timpani (Carter, Cahn, Beck, Ichiyanagi, Maresz, etc.) and his own compositions for solo instrument or instrumental ensemble. Frédéric Macarez is a clinician and performer for Majestic, Mapex, Innovative Percussion, Evans, and Sabian.
